Service & Vintage Equipment Policy

Last Updated: July 16, 2026

1. Our Commitment

At Tonewheel General, we specialize in new, vintage, restored, refurbished, and used musical instruments, components, accessories, and related equipment.

Many of the products we offer are unique, historically significant, or professionally restored. As a result, these products often differ from newly manufactured equipment in appearance, construction, performance characteristics, and maintenance requirements.

This policy explains what customers can expect when purchasing or servicing vintage and specialty equipment through Tonewheel General.

2. Vintage Equipment

Vintage equipment is valued for its originality, craftsmanship, and historical significance.

Unless otherwise noted, vintage products may exhibit characteristics consistent with their age, including:

  • Cosmetic wear;
  • Minor scratches or finish imperfections;
  • Aging of wood, metal, plastics, or paint;
  • Patina;
  • Original manufacturing tolerances;
  • Normal signs of previous ownership.

These characteristics are generally considered part of the product's authenticity and are not considered defects.

3. Restored and Refurbished Equipment

Many products sold by Tonewheel General have been professionally restored, refurbished, rebuilt, serviced, or upgraded.

Restoration may include, as appropriate:

  • Cleaning;
  • Mechanical adjustments;
  • Electrical repairs;
  • Replacement of worn components;
  • Lubrication;
  • Calibration;
  • Functional testing;
  • Cosmetic improvements.

Depending on the product, restored equipment may contain a combination of:

  • Original components;
  • Reproduction parts;
  • Modern replacement parts;
  • Manufacturer-authorized replacement components.

Whenever practical, significant modifications or restorations will be described in the product listing.

4. Used Equipment

Used equipment has previously been owned or operated.

Unless otherwise stated, used equipment may display cosmetic or functional characteristics consistent with normal use.

Product descriptions are intended to accurately represent the condition of each item; however, reasonable cosmetic variations may not always be individually described or photographed.

Customers are encouraged to review all product descriptions and photographs carefully before purchasing.

5. Product Condition

Tonewheel General strives to provide accurate descriptions and photographs of every product.

Because of differences in:

  • Computer monitors;
  • Mobile displays;
  • Lighting;
  • Camera equipment;
  • Viewing environments;

colors, finishes, and appearance may vary slightly from what is displayed online.

Measurements and specifications are believed to be accurate but may vary slightly due to manufacturing tolerances or the nature of vintage equipment.

6. Installation of Parts and Components

Many replacement parts sold by Tonewheel General require specialized knowledge for proper installation.

Unless specifically stated otherwise, customers are responsible for ensuring that replacement parts are:

  • Compatible with their equipment;
  • Properly installed;
  • Installed using appropriate tools and procedures.

Improper installation may result in equipment damage, reduced performance, electrical hazards, or loss of warranty coverage.

If you are uncertain about compatibility or installation, we encourage you to consult a qualified technician before purchasing or installing replacement parts.

7. Electronic Components

Electronic replacement components should be handled using appropriate electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions and installed according to accepted service practices.

Because installation methods are beyond our control, Tonewheel General cannot guarantee the performance of electronic components that have been:

  • Soldered;
  • Modified;
  • Altered;
  • Improperly installed;
  • Subjected to incorrect voltage or polarity;
  • Installed into defective equipment.

Customers should verify compatibility before installation.

8. Maintenance Expectations

Many vintage and electromechanical musical instruments require periodic maintenance to continue operating at their best.

Depending on the equipment, routine maintenance may include:

  • Lubrication;
  • Cleaning;
  • Belt replacement;
  • Tube replacement;
  • Mechanical adjustments;
  • Electrical calibration;
  • Periodic inspection;
  • Replacement of normal wear items.

Routine maintenance is considered normal ownership and is not a product defect.

9. Professional Service Recommendations

Tonewheel General recommends that major repairs, electrical work, and restoration be performed by qualified technicians familiar with the equipment involved.

Improper repairs or unauthorized modifications may:

  • Reduce performance;
  • Damage the equipment;
  • Create safety hazards;
  • Void applicable warranty coverage.

10. Compatibility

Many products sold by Tonewheel General are intended for specific models, production years, or configurations.

Although we make every reasonable effort to provide accurate compatibility information, customers are responsible for verifying compatibility before purchasing.

If you have questions about compatibility, please contact us before placing your order.

11. Technical Advice

Tonewheel General is pleased to provide general product information and technical guidance when possible.

Any recommendations or technical advice are based on the information available at the time and should not be interpreted as engineering, electrical, or installation certification.

Customers remain responsible for determining whether a product is appropriate for their particular equipment and application.

12. Product Modifications

Vintage equipment may have been modified by previous owners or service technicians before it was acquired by Tonewheel General.

While we make reasonable efforts to identify significant modifications, previously performed repairs or undocumented alterations may not always be apparent during inspection.

Such modifications may affect compatibility, future service requirements, or restoration options.

13. Safety

Customers should operate and service musical instruments and electronic equipment in accordance with all applicable safety practices.

Products operating on mains voltage or containing high-voltage circuitry should only be serviced by individuals qualified to perform such work.

Always disconnect equipment from electrical power before performing maintenance or repairs.

14. Limitation of Responsibility

Tonewheel General is not responsible for:

  • Damage resulting from improper installation;
  • Damage caused by unauthorized modifications;
  • Incorrect product selection by the customer;
  • Improper maintenance;
  • Failure to follow manufacturer instructions;
  • Normal wear and aging of vintage equipment;
  • Damage caused by incompatible equipment.

Nothing in this policy limits any rights provided by applicable law or any applicable written warranty.
